What Makes Them So Special?
It is the only species of dolphin that lives in fresh water. The pink color comes from the animal’s skin being so thin that the blood shows through. Because the water of the Amazon stream is heavily clouded by the sediments carried along with it, the river dolphin finds its food with the help of short, spiky hair on its snout, which helps it to feel its food in the water. The teeth of this mammal are very wide in the back of its dentition. So he can crack mussels but also the shell of turtles. Amazon river dolphins are almost blind and use their hearing for orientation.
